Teens Stage Pulitzer-Winning Drama

The dryly comedic "Our Town" opened Wednesday evening to a crowd of more than 100 people at the Triton Center at San Clemente High School.

San Clemente High School theater students took the audience on a trip to Thorton Wilder's cradle-to-the-grave play "Our Town" Wednesday evening at the high school's Triton Center.

The play takes place in early 20th century fictional town Grover's Corner, New Hampshire and follows the dreary routined lives of two local families.

"I'm very proud of the kids and I'm excited to see how they tell the story," said drama teacher and Director Jeannine Marquie. 

 "Our Town" was first performed at the McCarter Theater in Princeton, New Jersey on January 22, 1938. In the same year, Wilder received a Pulitzer prize for drama for his play.

"This play was written by one of the greates playwrites of all time," said San Clemente High School Theater Arts Booster Club President Shauna Hull. "It's just neat to see the kids come alive and be creative through theater."

Students held intense focus and solid energy throughout the play's two-hour duration.

Additional performances are Thursday through Saturday at 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the box office at 5:30 p.m. $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.
