For its 12th year in a row, local skate and surf talent demonstrated they've got the goods.
A surf competition known as "Stoke-O-Rama" and the Sunday San Clemente Skate Open both showcased local boarding talents this weekend.
For the 12th consecutive year, the San Clemente Open for skateboarding hit the Richard Steed Memorial Skate Park off Avenida La Pata, while surf was up at T-Street Beach.
From 6 a.m. until about 12:30 p.m., skaters were seen flying through the air with neon-colored skateboards under foot while about 30 people stood by in awe as punk rock tunes pounded through the loud speakers.
"I've done this event every year since I was a kid," said 23-year-old San Clemente local skater Jack Ferrelli. "It's how I keep my sanity."
Previous competitions took place all in one day. This year's event, however, separated the sports in two days. The skate competition showcased about 80 participants for the day.
"Despite the schedule changes, we still had a successful year," said Recreation Supervisor Peggy Lacayo.
Organizers of the annual competition are hoping to involve the local skate industry as well, said Recreation Coordinator Ken Sipes.
All proceeds from the events are donated to Beaches, Parks and Recreation Foundation.
